Like what is stated on the UPCAT results web pages, here’s what you need to do if your name is NOT on the passers list:
WHAT IF I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A CAMPUS?
If you do not qualify to any of your campus choices, you have several options:
FIRST : You can try other UP campuses if:
1. your rating is within their posted cut-off, and
2. they still have available slots.Present your Non-Qualifier’s Slip (which will be sent to you in the mail and which will show your admission rating) to the Registrar’s Office of the campus you want to enter. However, there is no guarantee of acceptance as each campus makes its own decisions according to its own criteria.
SECOND : If no UP campus can accommodate you, you can enroll in a college or university other than UP. After earning 33 academic units with a weighted average of 2.00 or better on the UP marking system, you can apply for transfer into a UP campus. Again, each campus has its own rules on transfer and accepts only a limited number of transfer students. Information regarding transfer to UP may be obtained from the Office of the University Registrar of the respective UP campuses.
Let’s focus on the FIRST scenario. So what are the cut-offs of the UP campuses? Using a scale of 1.000-5.000, with 1.000 being the highest and 5.000 being the lowest, here they are:
UP Diliman: 2.2 (no waitlist/recon)
UP Manila: 2.285 – 2.5
UP Baguio: 2.659 – 2.574
UP Tacloban: 2.7 – 2.7
UP Cebu: 2.7 – 2.7
UP Iloilo: 2.7 – 2.7
UP Mindanao: 2.75 – 2.75
UP Los Banos: 2.42 – 2.8
The number on the left is the cut-off basis of the UPCAT passers list, while the number on the right (the one after the hyphen) is the maximum cut-off for waitlist/reconsideration. Example: If you got a UPG of 2.3, you probably did not make it to UP Manila (based on the UPCAT passers list) BUT you may apply for waitlist/recon in UP Manila, because your UPG is qualified for recon/waitlist. But if your UPG is 2.510, you won’t have any chance of getting into UP Manila.
Aside from the cut-off scores, there’s also a chance that each course has required grades per subtest (remember the subtests? Reading Comprehension, Language Proficiency, Mathematics, and Science). In fact, that’s the style in UPLB. Below is a jpeg file I made from what UPLB posted last year. I repeat, these are the per course subtest cutoff grades of UPLB for the 1st semester Academic Year 2011-2012 (this applied to those who took the UPCAT in 2010). Needless to say, this may adjust for you who wish to enter UPLB in the 1st semester of Academic Year 2012-2013 (or those who took the UPCAT in 2011). This may be updated in mid-February.
I’ve also taken the liberty of making a jpeg file of the UPLB Waitlist Flow Chart. I believe the waitlist/recon styles of other campuses are similar.
Again, this was last year’s Waitlist Flowchart. But I guess it will be pretty much the same for this year, save for the dates of course (puro 2011 eh!) Please notice that, for UPLB, aside from the UPG cut-off and subtests scores requirement, ONLY THOSE WHO INDICATED UP LOS BANOS ON THEIR UPCAT APPLICATION FORMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR UPLB RECON. So if on your application form your 1st choice was UP Diliman and 2nd choice was UP Manila and failed to make the cut in both, you can’t apply in UPLB’s waitlist/recon.
And here by the way was last year’s UPLB Waitlist Form, which I think will also be applicable for AY 2012-2013

So there, I hope you have an idea of how waitlist/recon is done. If you notice, choosing UPLB will give you a huge advantage because it is (or was…malay natin magbago) the most lenient when it comes to waitlist/recon–it has the lowest cutoff grade despite having a high cutoff for official UPCAT passers. Also, it offers various course choices…when it comes to the number of possible courses, it comes next to Diliman. Speaking of Diliman, choosing it as one of your choice campuses is really a big risk–talagang No Recon or Waitlist. So if you don’t get into it, no chance of ever getting into it. I think UPLB’s I’ll-only-consider-you-if-you-considered-me-in-your-application-form mantra may hold true for other campuses as well–that they’ll only consider accepting you in their waitlist IF you put them on your application form (but to be sure, please call these campuses first! I’m just guessing here). Whereas Diliman, however, doesn’t care. Basted kung basted, bawal nang manligaw uli. So future UPCAT takers, before you take the plunge and put UP Diliman in your choices, think very, very, very hard.

Yes, they do accept recon in UP Manila. HOWEVER< do remember that UP Manila is relatively small and Manila is densely populated (worse pa dati because of the BS Nursing craze)…so expect that the competition among waitlisted applicants will be tougher.

Hi Denise! Every year nag-iiba kasi ang cut off. For some years, UP Manila ang may highest cut off (I guess because of the BS Nursing craze), then ngayon back to Diliman na ang highest cut-off (because the people now know may surplus na sa nurses).

When do we expect to receive the UPG of non qualifiers? Admission office in Diliman said that we need the official result sent tru mail (in case pwede ma recon based on upg). The one they will give in UPD admission is just a piece of paper daw.
Hi! You should receive it any time soon. But getting the slip of paper from UPD is sulit, I think. At least you know whwther you’d be qualified for waitlisting

I’m sorry but you have really low chances if making it to UPLB, foremost because it is not among your choice campuses.

Nagpunta po ako sa OUR ng UPLB at nagapply ng reconsideration. 2.6 po ang UPG ko at ang pinili kong course ay Agricultural and Biosystems Eng. Na meet ko naman po yung mga criteria but me tanong lang po ako. Pano po kaya nila ginagawa yung interview? Kahit idea lang po. And pano po kaya sila namimili sa mga courses without interview? At medyo mataas po kaya chance ko?

Hi Ms. Dew! I just got my UPG, which is 2.469. I am qualified for reconsideration in UP Manila, right? I just don’t know the procedure for reconsideration in UP Manila, is it the same with UPLB? 2. Since the requirement is AT LEAST 2.8, then YES YOU DO.
3. IMHO, the interview isn’t something you have to be scared of.
4. It is PROMISING, esp because climate change is big now. It is so underrated.
5. I’ve also heard that, but I know someone who got waitlisted (BS Forestry) in 2010 and was admitted. When he was already a BS Forestry student, he kept on telling me that he intended to shift to an engineering course (so I guess he was not asked to sign anything), but up to now he still hasn’t shifted (I think because he has come to love his course).

Hello po! Tanong ko lang po kung kino-consider rin po ba ng UP Manila ang subtest scores? Nalilito rin po kasi ako kasi sobrang baba po ng mga scores ko per subtest, pero ang UPG ko po ay 2.382. Nagpareconsider na po ako sa UP Manila, pero nagdadalawang-isip po ako kung hihintayin ko pa po yung results dahil di po ako confident sa subtest scores ko. BA Organizational Communication & BA Development Studies po talaga yung gusto ko, mataas po kaya yung chance na matanggap ako kahit yung subtest scores ko ay mabababa, (LP- 91, RC- 65, M-49, S-19) pero ok naman po yung UPG ko? Confirmation na at start na rin ng reservation of slots sa ibang school. In a week or two start na rin ng enrolment so you have to shell out something from your pocket para sa tuition fee ng ibang school 3rd week of May pa malalaman ang result kung qualified for interview ka para sa mga nagpa waitlist. Naiipit ka ngayon sa pagdi desisyon. lalo pa at di pa sure kung approve ang recon sa UPLB. But you have to secure a slot in other school. Sabi nga ng nakausap ko sa registrar ng elbi, it would be wise to confirm a slot in other school, kasi di pa naman sure ang approval sa UP, problem is you really needed to risk a material amount para masigurado lang na makakapasok ka din sa ibang school where you passed the exam. Mahirap din maghintay hanggang May 29. If we could only know in advance…

Hi Ms. Dew gusto ko po sanang mag-pareconsider sa UPLB. Ang kukunin ko po sana na course ay BS Economics at BA Sociology. My UPG is 2.592. Pasok naman po ang subtest scores ko sa 2 course na yan.
Questions:
1. April 13 ang deadline ng filing of application so if i go there on or before April 13 pwede pa ba ako ma-assist dun?
2. First choice ko ang UPLB.. so do i get higher chance to get in?
3. Sa BS Economics at BA Sociology may assurance ba na i will get in?
4. I remember na kasali sa choices ko ang BS Economic nung nagsubit ako para sa UPCAT. e I failed na nga so risky ba ang BS economics for me?

UPLB is really the campus of her choice. Her preferred courses were BS Agriculture and BS Agricultural Engineering. Her UPG is 2.658, Math 76, Science 31.
What are her chances since her score in science obviously did not meet the criteria for BS Agriculture? or, can she choose another course like BS Agricultural Economics where she meets the criteria, she has very good grades in high school (Gen Ave 89.5) and was even a varsity in basketball, do you think that would help?

Kwento mo naman yung mga specific questions
Una po yung personal things, such as residence, former school, job of parents etc. Then yung awards na nakuha mo. They were in awe po ata (sa tingin ko lang po
) nung snabi ko yung quiz bee champion awards ko. Then tatanungin ka nila na why did you prefer your new course of choice instead of your original upcat choice, which was in my case ABE(new choice) and Bio(original choice) respectively. Then sinabi nila sakin na pag nakapasok ako, walang shift shift, pero wala naman pnapirmahan. And lastly, tatanungin nila kung me other schools kna na na applayan. Yun lang naman po.

i think po ang interview eh nakadepend kung nasa mood yung magiinterview sayo,,, katulad po nung saken,,, dun po ako napatapat na sobrang bilis mag interview,,, sa tingin ko po eh umabot lang ng 3 minutes ung interview saken while ung others eh mga 15 minutes,,,, basic questions lang po tinatanong like kung ano alam mo sa course san ka grumaduate… kaya sa tingin ko po eh ang interview na to eh kaylangan lang ng swerte,, hehe

Na-interview na po ako kahapon sa AgEcon. 131 ung number ko out of 137. Ang dami pong nagparecconsider at ang interview ay umaabot ng aprrox. 15mins. In my case since huli na ung number ko mga 5mins lang ung interview sa akin pero ung nag-interview sa akin mukha namang impressed sa subtest scores ko at masaya sya infact natuwa pa sya to know na parehas ARIES ang zodiac sign namin. Kaso may mali akong nasabi kasi 1st choice ko ang econmics at 2nd ang AgEcon, “AgEcon nalang po ang pipiliin ko”…boom sabi nya hindi ni-lalang ang AgEcon. Now im cnfused na talaga kung makakapasok ako pero syempre umaasa parin ako and besides mabait naman ung nag-interview per baka naman sa lahat sila mabait.. :/

Ang 1st choice ko po ay bs economics at 2nd ang bs agri economics. According po sa results sa OUR bulletin i passed bs agri economics pero sa result po sa internet bs economics ako nakapasok. Naguguluhan ako Ma’am kasi love ko talaga ang economics pero may nagsabi sa akin na mas maganda daw ang turo ng agri economics sa UPLB. Anu po ba mas maganda bs economics or bs agri economics??

Hello po! I just want to ask something regarding the first choice and second choice of campus.
I have friends who put UP LB or UP Manila as their first choice and UP Diliman as their second choice. They passed the UPCAT but instead of being accepted to their first choice, they got into UP Diliman. If your UPG is high enough to pass UPD, then are you automatically accepted UPD (given that it was your second choice)?
Hi Gabriela! If your UPG is high enough to have gotten into UPD yet it’s not your first choice, you won’t be put or transferred there.
Re: your friend who put UP Manila as first choice but landed on UP Dil (2nd choice), I think it’s because UP Manila used to have a higher cutoff than UP Dil.

2.) Pwede ko po bang i-request sa UP na i-disregard ang grade ko during my 3rd year? willing po kasi ako kunin lahat ng subjects ko sa UP.
Hi blueeagle (Atenista?)! Yes, as long as your grades are OK, you may transfer. Ang alam ko nga kahit two years ka lang in your college/university pwede na eh, ad long as your grades are OK. As for disregarding the grades you got in your current school, I think UP will really disregard it. I think you’ll really start from scratch

Saan pong UP Campuses pwede lumipat kasi po yung tinignan ko po, tuwing 1st semester lang po ata tumatanggap ang UP? Hi! That actually depends. You still have not told me how you did on your current school. AFAIK, there is a grade requirement plus other requirements depending on the program/course you wish to enter.

Hi Janine! I’m sorry but the cutoff in waitlisting is 2.8 talaga. If you really want to study in UP you may enroll in another university/college first then trasfer to UP after 2 years.
