This is suuuupeeeer long overdue, but definitely worth blogging about.
I’ve mentioned on my blog before that one of the petty-yet-deep-in-a-way reasons why I postponed getting pregnant was because my closest friends were either still single or married yet childless (by choice). I wanted to have someone to talk about morning sickness and darkening underarms with, and whether or not to Ferberize. But what can I do–my galpals are so career-driven I sometimes feel too domesticated when I’m with them. Though can I just say how proud (and a little jealous) I am of my career-driven best friends (Teta, Munira, Ate Karen, Doc Maya, Kat, Zaira, Charissa, Tzietel, Kristine, and Chrysanthemum–I’m talking about you girls!)?
And most of my colleagues at Brain Train are single too!
Thus, befriending other mommy bloggers is seriously one of the best perks of blogging. The cyberhugs I get from my cyberfriends are very comforting. After barely a year of stalking each other’s blogs, we decided to all meet and have a playdate. OK fine, more of a gabfest actually. So one Sunday afternoon, I met my cyberbestfriends. Upon seeing them, I realized that aside from blogging, we also shared one other key trait: We (of course kasali ako!) are all gorgeous moms with gorgeous kids! Meet and greet them too!
- Mars of Planet Marsy – On the playdate, I saw Mars first. Indeed, being a wife and mom suits her! She’s even more gorgeous these days than when I last saw her. See, Mars and I have a history way, way back. We first met in Makati, because we were officemates. Although we both directly report to the same boss (Hi Sir Marco!), we didn’t get the chance to really bond because I was assigned at the site, while Mars was assigned at the main office. I just usually asked her whether I could see our boss so I could give a quick report about what’s happening at the site. Although I remember a time when I invited her to have lunch with me and she rejected me, because she said she was having lunch with someone!!! And take note–she didn’t offer to invite me!!! I felt slighted, but I knew something was up, because Mars was usually so polite. Turns out she was secretly dating our colleague then–and they were able to keep the relationship a secret for a looooong time! Now, she’s married to that man, Gerry. 🙂
And oh, by the way, we both studied Development Communication at UPLB! And we both majored in Development Journalism too! I was a year ahead than she, and we never crossed paths! Guess because she’s always headed to the library while I was always headed, erm, far from the library. Hehe. Ayan tuloy, s’ya lang ang cum laude!
- Maggie of Mommy Maggie’s Musings – When I first stumbled upon Maggie’s blog, I immediately got impressed. For one, she also seemed to love alliterations (blog title pa lang!) I also like her writing–simple yet engaging, and has an almost flawless grammar. Just by reading one of her earlier posts, I immediately sensed Maggie was one smart lady. And then we started stalking each other’s blogs. Then one day, I saw a comment on her blog. It was from Sheila Molina, one of the HR people at Century Properties (where Mars and I used to work). It said something like she (Sheila) loves reading our blogs, and that we may not know it but we used to be colleagues at Century Properties. At the same time, I also got a friend request from Maggie–and then I saw that her name was Maggie Ricafort-Agustin. After just a few seconds, BOOM! I remembered her–Maggie RICAFORT!!! We actually applied at Century together!!! We even made a small chitchat before the interview, and we waited for each other to be finished and then had lunch together! We both got the jobs but like Mars she was assigned at the main office. She also resigned way earlier than I did. What a small, small cyberworld, right?
- Em of Akira and Everything Nice – Em was a mystery to me, as I’ve never met her before. She came off as really nice and polite online. The picture on her website was vague, as she was wearing sunnies. Plus she posted mainly about her adorable little girl, Akira, and she also shares her secret recipes. No wardrobe diary or whatsoever. Thus I had no idea how she looked like. So imagine my surprise when I saw her how lovely she really is in person! Although she was wearing flats and semi-pekpek (MTRCB!) shorts, it was obvious she was a statuesque beauty! She had alabaster smooth skin and raven-black long hair! At may dimples pa! My awe of her beauty was the same when I saw her Akira–gandang-ganda ako sa bata! Sure, Akira already looked cute on photos, but she is waaaaaay prettier in person!
I actually felt guilty because there were times when Em might have felt out-of-place as Maggie, Mars and I often talked about our previous company (like I grilled Maggie why she suddenly resigned, and how the people at Century reacted when Mars and Gerry announced they were engaged).
Too bad the other member of our clique, Maqui of Familia Kiki, was not able to come as her baby Aki got sick. Good thing we’ve had our playdate months before when she visited Los Banos, which incidentally, is also her hometown! Maqui is probably my first cyberfriend.
I stumbled upon her blog when I Googled “how to make party pom poms” (I think of Maqui as the Martha Stewart of our online clique–she’s very creative and very arts-and-craftsy). I left a comment thanking her for sharing the info, and she said I looked familiar. And the rest was history.
I honestly thought we moms would be awkward towards one another. But because we stalk each other’s blog, it really e as though we were old time friends. When we talk about something, we no longer need to go into a long preamble/background story, because we are updated about each other’s life through our blogs. So it was a fun, fun, fun, fun playdate/gabfest. I am really looking forward to seeing them again!
Tell me what you think!
