This FACT was reinforced on me last week, a day before my and Randy’s fifth wedding anniversary. If you remember from my previous post, I had a bout of “depression” and I first poured out my heart to Randy. Pouring out my momentary depress-depress-an to my husband proved to be a mistake because men are from Mars!
According to this famous book by Dr. John Gray, a man is wired to solve anything that he perceives to be a problem. So when I told Randy my woes, it got him all sullen. He was dismayed over the fact that I still get “depressed” even though his “caveman” duties were more than fulfilled.
But you know, after venting my feelings on him, I felt good. Just like that. Not for long though, because it was now he who was getting sullen.
The following day, I had a quick chat with one of my best friends. I basically said the same thing, and I compared myself to someone whose seemingly carefree lifestyle I envied.
This was my and my friend’s conversation:
Sorry, I had to erase her face, name, and some of our conversation. She has to remain anonymous as some of you might hate her because she said that my son, despite being a boy, was “prettier” than the daughter of this person I envy (‘Coz you know, it was kinda mean. Yet she doesn’t have a child yet so she still can’t appreciate the beauty of other kids. Forgive her OK? We were like that too before we had kids, dabah?).
Hate me for this if you want, pero natawa talaga ako sa comment n’ya. Nawala ‘yung “depression”.
But hear my point: do you see the difference when you talk to your man and when you talk to your girls? Randy took my pag-iinarte heavily (as he shouldn’t have), but my gal pal took it with a grain of salt (as how it should be taken). Nagawa pang kalokohan ‘yung ikakaloka-loka ko.
Truly truly, gal pals are a must, no? So girls, don’t take your girls for granted! Hindi porke’t may boylet ka na, echepwera na sina kumare.
More than once in a while, every one of us needs to talk to someone from our own planet: one who has the same culture and the same language. 🙂
Tell me what you think!
