Yes, this is a bakya post. Taglish, jeje kung jeje. Zsa Zsa Zaturrnah ang peg.
Remember my recent post My Fat Memo? Well, it’s not as though I haven’t done anything at all for me to be the woman I used to be (naks!). And one of them is zumba.
I first heard zumba from my friend Light Manuel more than a year ago. She said it’s a fun way to keep fit. Pero bilang nasa probinsya ng Laguna, of course wala munang zumba-zumba dito. Parang sinehan nung unang panahon—one month muna sa Maynila bago makarating sa probinsya. Gagasgasin at aamagin muna dapat.
But this June, lo and behold!!! Aba, aba, aba—a gym at a local mall started offering zumba classes. My friend and thinspiration Regina Martinez told me she has been attending zumba classes. And, she said she loved that kind of workout (she goes to zumba AFTER boxing). I also mentioned it to my new doctor friend, Dr. Sugar Blanco (She’s a pediatrician. Mura lang ang vaccination sa kanya. Go!) and she got excited! If not for the fact that she has doctor duties in Calamba she’d have definitely gone with me!
And so my inner goddess became excited. My fat cells started trembling. I told Regina I’ll zumba with her. After a series of postponements, finally—thiz eez really eeez really eez iit!!!
One Wednesday evening, Regina and I went to zumba together. I was really excited, mind you. Moreso when I saw the zumba instructor. She was in her forties buuuut she was really toned and lithe. I was beginning to imagine my body morphing into something like that.
The music started, and excited moi began following the moves of the instructor. And as I was tring to imitate the instructor, I was suddenly transported back in time. Back to my grade school days, when I was usually carefree and merry…
Unfortunately, doing the zumba transported me back into the days of my grade school years that I loathed!!! Nope, not the exams—worse! I was transported back into the days that hampered my happiness of the nearness of our moving up ceremonies (translation: classes cease; malapit na ang summer vacation)…back into the days when I have to freaking join dance practices that our grade level will present during the moving up ceremony!!! And I loathed these days so so so much!!! I was am so terrible at dancing that even my parents would worry for me: Sasayaw ka anak?!? E ‘di ba ang tigas ng katawan mo at hindi ka marunong sumunod sa steps?!? (way to go Mom. That really helped me face reality.) I swear, I’d much rather solve math problems than dance!!!
Me during zumba
So as I was sweating more because I can’t follow the zumba steps, my inner goddess was cursing me: What the fart did you get yourself into?!? Voluntary sumasayaw ka?!? Nagbabayad ka para ma-torture?!? Not to mention mapahiya? Ayan, lahat sila ang kamay asa left, ikaw asa right! Kanina lahat sila nakaharap sa east, ikaw sa west!!!
Yes, ganyan ako kalala!
And the fact that the rubber shoes I was wearing were damaged. Bakbak ang suwelas. Nacacahiya especially during the times when we needed to lift our feet. E marami-rami siya!
In my defense, Nike ‘yun, brand new nung binili. And, mga 4x ko lang nagamit ever. Mga 2x a year. But Randy said that shoes get ruined more easily if you don’t use them. And since I can’t yet promise that I’ll be using a new pair of rubber shoes regularly if I buy a new pair, Aldo sandals na lang ang binili ko. O diba? 😉
Anyhoo, I’m sure you ask: so, effective ba ang zumba in my quest to lose weight? Well YES! I know I lost a lot of calories. However, majority of the calories I lost on that night was because of mental exhaustion. Far second lang ang physical exhaustion. Halos dumugo ang ilong ko sa pagsunod sa steps.
Angge (Reg’s friend), Reg, and I after my first and last zumba. Let’s sing: Oh oh oh yes, I’m the great pretender…hooowooohooowooo…pretending that I’m doing weeeell…hoowoohooowoooh…
Unfortunately, even though zumba zapped about a thouzand calories off me in one zezzion, I know it’z not for me.
Dance + Dewmaine? Disaster.
Tell me what you think!
