Have you seen this on Facebook or on any of your social media accounts:

The picture at the top is from Vice-President Jejomar Binay (ay ganun ba? Naku buti sinabi mo…hehe) while the one at the bottom is from Davao City through the initiative of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Of course, Vice-President Binay received a lot of flak for that. Many said that the seal of the Office of the Vice-President would have been enough. But nooooo, his name had to be prominent. It just shows how “forward-thinking” our vice-president is. 😉 And ironically, that makes me feel bad.
Other celebrities were also bashed for their efforts. One of them is Rhian Ramos, because of her Fansign for a Cause.

Then there’s also Jamich. Honestly, I don’t know who Jamich is. I googled who/what this is and learned that Jamich is actually a bf-gf tandem who have become YouTube sensations.

And of course, celebrities who show pictures of themselves packing donations or even publicizing their donations.
So what’s my take on this? IMHO, they should NOT be bashed kahit pa ipagsigawan nila ang donations nila.
You all know how flamboyant I am, right? But when it comes to helping, nahihiya ako. If I tell you my thoughts of helping people, I’ll be contradicting myself and baka sabihin n’yo kunwari pa ako. But really, it’s something I don’t like to publicize. Nahihiya talaga ako to blatantly say how much I’ve helped or how I plan to help. When I post or write about a cause, I swear I’m not doing it to make you think I’m a good person. I do it to help disseminate awareness, which I think I do well. And honestly, I am very shy to have photo ops with the people I’ve helped or how I help “in action”.
So why am I saying that celebrities should not be bashed even when they’re flaunting their generosity, when I just hinted how epal Binay is? What’s the difference?!?
It’s because it’s Binay’s and every elected official’s sworn responsibility to help. People voted for them because they promised to help. And because people believed them, people pay for their salaries, and they have access to public funds!
Celebrities, on the other hand, did not become models or actors to help people. It’s not even in their job description. So when they help, let’s just thank them. Epal na kung epal, but in the end, nakatulong sila, tapos. Moreover, when they publicize how they’re helping, it inspires those who idolize them. Repacking relief goods is not a glamorous job. But when fans see their “idols” getting dirty, they suddenly realize that they too want to help. It’s a win-win situation, really. If a celebrity gets a good image because of that, so what? Sabi nga ni Joey sa FRIENDS, “there’s no unselfish good deeds, sorry.” Joey was saying that if you like to help because it makes you feel good, then you’re doing it for a selfish reason. Harhar!
But oh wait. I realized that what Jejomar Binay and other trapos did was also inspiring! It inspires young politicians to focus on pogi points during calamities, rather than doing what’s morally right.
Before I park, let me share with you the full transcript of Joey and Phoebe’s conversation on FRIENDS regarding how “selfish” helping is:
Joey: I’m sorry Pheebs, I just, y’know, I just wanted to do a good deed. Like-like you did with the babies.
Phoebe: This isn’t a good deed, you just wanted to get on TV! This is totally selfish.
Joey: Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! What about you, having those babies for your brother? Talk about selfish!
Phoebe: What-what are you talking about?!
Joey: Well, yeah, it was a really nice thing and all, but it made you feel really good right?
Phoebe: Yeah. So?
Joey: It made you feel good, so that makes it selfish. Look, there’s no unselfish good deeds, sorry.
Phoebe: Yes there are! There are totally good deeds that are selfless.
Joey: Well, may I ask for one example?
Phoebe: Yeah, it’s… Y’know there’s—no you may not!
Hahaha! So guys, let’s stop bashing those who help to feel good about themselves. Rather, let’s scrutinize those who help not because they feel good about being able to help.
Tell me what you think!
