Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Body Wash. I knew at the onset that Palmer’s products were good. When I was pregnant, I accepted I was gonna have stretchmarks on my tummy. But Randy bought me lots of Palmer’s Tummy Butter anyway. And whenever my tummy would feel itchy, he would lovingly lather it. Now I’m grateful for his intervention, because if it were not for my thick waistline, may “K” pa akong mag-two-piece because my tummy is stretchmark-free. So when we were at Duty Free and this body wash caught my eyes, I was confident that I was buying a great body wash. Bonus pa that it is sulfate-free and paraben-free! So yeah, I was already expecting that it’s a great product. But I was still pleasantly surprised when I tried it–its cocoa-ish scent smells good, and my skin was really silky soft and heavily moisturized. Basta ang sarap ng pakiramdam!
Lancôme Blush Subtil. I think I may have mentioned before that I wasn’t a “pink-y” girl. Sa arte kong ‘to, I still find the color pink too sweet for my taste. ‘Yun bang kung pagkain siya, sasakit ang lalamunan mo sa sobrang tamis (I guess that’s why cotton candies are pink) So when my cousin gave me this as pasalubong, I first hesitated to use it. But since, what the heck libre naman, ginamit ko na rin. And boy oh boy, it gave me a subtle yet healthy-looking glow. You know the term rosy cheeks? The person who coined that term was thinking of the glow that this blush gives.
Christian Eyebrow Powder. To be honest, nothing still beats K-Palette 1-Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eyebrow Liner when it comes to staying power. However, it can be quite expensive for me, as my eyebrows are really sparse so I need quite a lot. Thus, the sales assistants of Beauty Bar advised me to try Christian instead. Although not as long-wearing as K-Palette (but it comes pretty close), Christian Eyebrow Powder is heaven-sent for girls like me with bald spots in the eyebrow. The eyebrow stencils it comes with help a LOT in giving me bongga yet natural-looking eyebrows with the perfect arch. I also like the fact that the stencils are firm, unlike the stencils from ELF, which are flimsy and easily slide off (plus, I have to cut them because they cover my eyes). TIP: I realized that a damp brush makes my eyebrows more defined and longer lasting; it also prevents wasting the powder.
The Body Shop Born Lippy Strawberry Lip Balm. Lip balms used to be at the bottom of my “make-up priorities inverted pyramid.” But because I have experienced chapped lips because of airconditioning, I have been grudgingly shelling out more or less one hundred bucks for Chapsticks for years now. And I always scoff at people who buy expensive lip balms. Like, “Duh?! Lip balms just moisturize the lips, so why would I buy expensive lip balms just because they’re in cute containers or because they taste like a certain fruit!” But then again my cousin, Ate Tata, sent me this lip balm. So I told myself again, “What the heck, libre naman!” And you know what, it was love at first whiff for me! When I opened this small jar and caught the fruity scent of strawberry, my mood immediately lifted, promise! And I fell for it even more when the balm touched my lips! Sobrang sarap at sobrang lambot ng lips ko, kung pwede lang makipaghalikan ako sa sarili ko! So yeah, echepwera na si Chapstick.
Amazing Grace by Philosophy. I’m very picky when it comes to scents. It’s something I got from Motherhood. Motherhood is far from being vain and knows little about make-ups and designer bags, but she is a connoisseur when it comes to scents. She has inculcated to my mind that not all perfumes smell good, and the good perfumes are those that smell clean and crisp, with maybe just a tinge of floral or fruity notes. She also said that it’s good to have a signature scent–hers being Pleasures by Estée Lauder. At first, I thought Motherhood was just being a perfume-snob. But when I got pregnant, I finally got what she was telling me. My sense of smell significantly heightened, and almost all scents made me want to vomit! So I banned all perfumes at home and in the office. I was perfume-free for almost four years. Until recently, my sister-in-law Ruth came bearing gifts. I was asked to choose a Victoria’s Secret cologne. And surprise–I loved one! It was the Sheer Love White Cotton and Pink Lilyvariant. And as you may have guessed based on the name, this scent is crisp, clean, and with just the right amount of sweetness. So after months of wearing this and not vomiting, I realized I was ready for perfumes. And having worn Philosophy’s Amazing Grace perfume pre-pregnancy and finding it the most mahinhin of all scents, I decided that this was gonna be my signature scent. Since perfumes tend to be quite pricey, I waited until we went to Duty Free. And, BONUS: aside from being significantly cheaper there, my perfume also came with a bottle of lotion and a bottle of body wash of the same scent. Motherhood said that it was perfect, because for scents to stand out and to last without being overpowering, you have to layer: body wash first, lotion next, and then perfume last.
