I first started writing the draft of this blog a few days after Mom arrived from London and a few days before Typhoon Glenda hit us. I decided to wait a few weeks or so to publish/continue writing, as I was not in a celebratory mood with all the destruction Glenda caused us. But what the heck, we need to move on and celebrate what we have!
Welcome back to the Philippines, Motherhood!
So for more or less two weeks, Motherhood was in the UK. I’m so jealous because it was her second time there. On her first trip to London, she attended a conference where she was one of the very few Filipino scientists invited. In her latest trip there, she presented a paper in an international conference. I could not help but be proud of her. She even said that she was the panel leader, and wasn’t the least intimidated when it was her time to present her research. ‘Di ba? And by the way, when I blogged about her winning a best paper award earlier, that was just the first of her awards that year. Nag-grand slam pala siya. I learned about that much later pa after her win, because she did not feel it was that important for her to tell me. Sa Facebook ko pa nalaman. Gravity!
Anyway, we fetched Motherhood from the airport when she arrived. Na-stress pa siya because we were super late! She’s been in the airport for about an hour nung dumating kami. Actually, we left early on the day of her arrival. We just hung out at Festival Mall while waiting for her. Why Festival? Remember that on our anniversary when I got Raviv clothes from Guess? Naku, masikip nanaman yung jeans! So I had them replaced.
Then afterwards, Raviv went “driving” again:
Just as we were to head to the airport, we decided to stop by Booksale. We saw lots and lots of books that Raviv just loved!
At na-traffic kami pagpunta sa airport! Stressed na stressed na ang Abuelita Emma natin sa pag-aantay! Sana raw sa iba na s’ya nagpasundo, hehe.
But when Motherhood saw us and Raviv, I guess all her imbyerna wore off.
Anyway, the reason why we were the ones who picked her up from the airport was because we wanted to go to Duty Free afterwards.
It was actually Randy who was so eager to go to Duty Free. Bakit kamo? To buy chocolates! He has a sweet tooth—sweeter than mine!
As in the chocolates section was our first stop. Ay ako rin pala may hinanap na chocolate! These days, hindi na ako ganun kahilig sa chocolates but there’s this chocolate an sooooooobrang gustung-gusto ko, as in tinipid–tipid ko ang kain. I was looking for that at Duty Free. The sales assistants were asking me the name, unfortunately, I can’t remember it! It’s my sister-in-law Ruth’s pasalubong when she returned from Spain. I spent a loooong time searching each shelf. I even called Yaya Gigi to find the sole remaining chocolate (na tinitipidtipid– ko) left in our ref. When she saw it, I told her to tell me the name. Alam n’yo anong sabi?
Gigi: Ay Ma’am! Ang brand ng chocolate ay…PISTACHIO!
Nyorks! I told her it was a flavor, and to just text me everything she saw on the label of the chocolate (as I remember it has a very foreign sounding name). At ang masunuring si Gigi, tinext pati kung ilang grams at ounces yung chocolates. Hahaha! Pero wala talaga sa Duty Free. Na-depress ako. 🙁 So favor naman: If you see this chocolate, please inform me. This is it:
It may sound insane to those who are blessed with thick, dark eyebrows, but it’s my eyebrows that I invest so heavily on when it comes to make-up. Para akong hubad ‘pag walang brow filler!
I also got this perfume set:
Eto talaga actually ang tinarget ko sa dito sa Duty Free. I almost never wear any perfume because I’m too picky when it comes to scents—I find most scents masangsang. During my pregnancy and until years after I’ve given birth, I refused to wear perfume and prohibited Randy from doing so, too. But when I realized I was ready to wear perfumes again, I was eager to grab a bottle of Philosophy Amazing Grace. I’ve worn this perfume pre-pregnancy, and I just love how mahinhin and clean its scent is! ‘Yung tipong amoy na hahanap-hanspin mo, hindi ‘yung perfume na parang sumisigaw ng, “PERFUME!!!!!!!!!” sa pagkatapang. That’s why I decided that from now on, this will be my signature scent. Aaaand, I was glad that aside from being cheaper here at Duty Free, the perfume came with free lotion and body wash. O ‘di ba?
While paying at the cashier, a boutique caught my eye: DESIGUAL! I was really, really, REALLY tempted to buy bags and clothes from Desigual.
Look at these eclectic-yet-still-classy pieces that Desigual offers:
Kaso lang Majalja Salvador ang Desigual! But this brand is the perfect epitome of “boho chic”, I tell you. So I was silently thanking my sister-in-law Ruth for this super nice Desigual dress she brought me as pasalubong from Spain last year:
I haven’t worn this dress yet as I’m saving it for something special talaga. (Ruth, you give the best pasalubongs!!! Walang sablay, from chocolates to dresses, winner!)
And then after drooling over these Desigual pieces, we went to the Duty Free grocery already.
Two of the items that excited Randy most were these Mrs. Fields cookies:
We all know that a Mrs. Fields cookie costs a lot, right? So when Randy learned that each box containing 20 cookies cost only mga P200-300, he was really giddy. I supported him and encouraged him to buy two boxes (unfortunately when we were eating these cookies, we realized they taste just like the Keebler’s Soft Batch cookies, which are significantly less expensive than Mrs. Fields’s).
After more or less two hours of Duty Free shopping, we had dinner and headed straight to our condo in Mandaluyong. There, we opened Motherhood’s, a family friend’s, and our cousin’s pasalubongs for us.
A family friend gave Raviv this really soft and cuddly moose stuffed animal that he now sleeps with:
Raviv was super duper happy with what my cousin from the UK gave him. Look:
LEFT: Sure, Raviv already has several Ben 10 watches but this watch is the Rolex of his Ben 10 watches. Since he kinda knows that his other Ben 10 watches were cheap, he call this the “real” Ben 10 watch. RIGHT: Despite a super tiring day, he still managed to stay up until midnight to watch this Ben 10 DVD. Watched it while holding his Ben 10 action figures tightly to his chest and looking at his watch every once in a while. Thanks soooo much Ate Ta!!!
And I also love what my cousin sent me:
The Calvin Klein blouse fits me perfectly; I love the costume jewelry from Accessorize; I also addicted to the lip balm from The Body Shop; the Lancome blush complements my skin tone (surprisingly, because I used to avoid pink make-up); and I can’t wait to scribble my ideas on to the “royal” hardbound notebook! And Randy also loved his jersey/shirt! Thanks so much Estacio-Alcala family!!!
Hay. It was a very tiring day (especially because of our Herculean effort in fitting Mom’s luggage and our ipinang-shopping to our car, and then from the basement parking of our condo into our condo unit), but we all slept with smiles on our faces, because we definitely felt the love that came all the way from London!
Tell me what you think!
