If we’re Facebook friends or if you’ve liked @MomsterTeacher on Facebook, then you know I keep on posting this Ikea commercial and tagging people shamelessly. Watch it if you haven’t yet, and watch it again even if you already have.
Be right back, I’ll just wipe my tears again. 😭
Now I’m back. Hahay. Hirap maka-getover. The way the mom looks at her son! Right on target, it reminds me how time flies so quickly. And I could so relate. Just last night Randy and I were watching Raviv’s old videos on Instagram, and boy, how Raviv has grown! He is now in kindergarten, as handsome and cute as ever!
And as usual, he has been saying the most out-of-this-world things. But he’s now even funnier and the things he says are now more “sapul na sapul”. Ready to hear my five-year-old’s banats? 😀 Gorabelles!
Conversations 1 & 2: The real disappointment
When we were having breakfast at the B Hotel, Raviv kept on running around and was clanking his spoon and fork on the plates despite the dirty looks I dart to his direction. He was also imitating the way I speak to mock me. And then finally, I had enough and reprimanded him. Gentle-gentle because we were in a public place. 😉
I (with a concerned and stern look on my face): Raviv, why do you always disappoint your mommy & daddy?
Raviv (indignant): No, I don’t! You’re the only who’s disappointed. When I do that, Tatay laughs.
My dirty looks were redirected to a sheepish Randy who, just as Raviv predicted, was laughing! 😤
Raviv: When Tatay gets angry at me, I don’t think he’s really angry. Because he would smile. I see him, he smiles.
Hay nakow! 🙄
Conversation 3: Raviv the hotel addict
When we have just checked out of that hotel and were on our way home, the little boy just suddenly blurted his hinanakit.
Raviv: You know what I don’t like about hotels?
Randy (surprised because Raviv looooves hotels): What?
Raviv: It’s that we don’t stay there for a long time.
Conversation 4: Raviv’s first knock-knock joke
While Randy was watching Game 7 of the NBA Finals, he was of course, serious. Bawal manggulo. But his seriousness took a break when one of the Cavs players, JR Smith, scored while Raviv was in the bedroom with Randy.
Game announcer: JR….Smith!!!
Raviv, breaking into a song nonchalantly: Sa JR Smith Express, panalo…
HAHAHA! If you’re listening to local radio stations, you know what this is.
Conversation 5: The secret to Raviv’s wide vocabulary
Speaking of radio, a few months before that, there was time na bibilib na rin sana ako sa vocabulary ni Raviv. Because out of nowhere…
Raviv (nonchalantly): In the hustle and bustle…
I, thinking: OMG! My son is already using the terms “hustle and bustle”! He’s amaz—-
Raviv, breaking my reverie: …of city life, there’s only one radio station that keeps you sane. Easy Ra-hoooock…
Walastik. He was just repeating the 96.3 station ID!
Conversations 6 &7: Raviv on food
One time, when I feared Raviv was already hungry because our food is delayed…
I: You want a sundae while waiting?
Raviv: No, not really…but what about a Saturday?
Hay ewan ko sa ‘yo, Raviv!
Then there was also this instance when the two of us were eating in the S&R foodcourt. He said he wanted pepperoni pizza, so I ordered that for him and chicken with rice for myself. But when the chicken & rice arrived, Raviv wanted it, too. Especially the crispy chicken skin (S&R has one of the best fast food fried chickens, don’t you think?) I was hungry and had nothing to eat, so I asked whether he could share the chicken with me.
I: Raviv, can I also eat the chicken?
Raviv: OK, but eat only the laman.
I: But what about the balat?
Raviv (pointblank): Then you will get fat.
😒 Gulp. Sige, iyo na ‘yang balat na ‘yan.
I hope my son’s words of wisdom made you choke on whatever it is you’re munching on. 🤗 I swear I have a lot more in store, but this entry is already too long! I promise to create Part 10 sooner than soon. 🙂
