Raviv’s 6th birthday celebration was a super last-minute decision. We had no plans to throw him a party. But he really, really wanted a party with his friends. I thought it was a good idea na rin so I could meet his classmates and their parents. I used to know his classmates and schoolmates and their families in Rainbow and Gymboree Sta. Rosa because both schools used to have quarterly parties at school. So I figured that by throwing him a simple yet fun birthday party, I’ll finally meet his smart friend Cheska. And see the Riley who, according to Raviv, “has the cutest face in class.”, etc.
I convinced Randy to throw a party for Raviv na nga. Since there was no longer any big function room beside Gymboree, that means we’ll just use the preschool classrooms (like Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan did for her youngest daughter Solana). That means hindi na nakaka-stress ang decoration. That means I won’t be a grinch during the Christmas season. That means Randy agreed. 🙂 So Raviv had another Gymboree party!!!
Venue: Gymboree Play & Music Sta. Rosa (forever!)
Let me clarify something first: yes, Gymboree classes are only for children 0-5 years old. And yes, most Gymboree centres in the Philippines only allow children 0-4 years old on their playfloor. That’s because the other centres have the old equipment, and the old equipment is suitable only for very young children. However, Gymboree Sta. Rosa has the new equipment, which is suitable for children up to 7 years old. But because most of the Gymboree students are aged 0-4 years old, 6-year-olds and above are NOT allowed to play along with the “babies” because—let’s face it—older children play more roughly so kawawa naman ang babies. In Raviv’s party, we only invited his friends and they are all roughly the same age.
It was super simple, super hassle-free, and yet I love, love this party!
Guests: Raviv’s classmates, soccer teammates, playdate friends and cousins
Since it was a small and simple birthday party, we let Raviv choose whom to invite. So to my friends, I’m really sorry I no longer invited you and/or your kids. It’s not that I didn’t want to—it’s just that we had a really small venue and we only invited Raviv’s former and present classmates, teammates in soccer, playdate friends, and cousins.
These photos were taken before the program. No bored child–everyone was just so happy to be at Gymboree! I asked the teachers to delay the start of the program because look at those faces!!!
Theme: Shark Attack Party / Ocean Adventure Party
I know, right? Bakit naman shark?!? Because these days, his favourite game on the iPad is Hungry Shark Evolution. And because of that, his interest in sharks and other big aquatic animals is at an all-time high. He would devour every bit of information about sharks—just as he did during his dinosaur era!
As usual, it was sariling sikap. No catering. Anyway, it was a children’s party–pretentious food not necessary! And what do children like? These!
Food we prepared: chicken lollipops, pork barbecue, pancit malabon (bought from a nearby restaurant), seafood pizza (bought from S&R), baked macaroni, fried squid rings and cheesy crabsticks wrapped in bacon; sweets were the boutique pastry, skewered fruits, and chocolates. And oh yeah, we also had Herr’s Cheese Curls and the kids loved it!!!
Cakes: Bawal ang chocolate cake
(Because we live in Los Banos. Los Banos = Mernel’s forever, in all occasions. So utang na loob, ibang flavour naman!)
I’m so happy I found two new reliable suppliers!
I ordered cakes in a jar (jar cakes?) from a Gymboree mom. Although more expensive than a regular cupcake, it’s easier to bring home. I got the red velvet flavour. It’s delicious!
Raviv’s main cake was from Chef Grace Martinez of Chef Studio, whose office/baking studio just happens to be in the same building as Gymboree! I told Chef Grace I want boiled sugar icing (except of course for the figures) and vanilla chiffon cake, because that’s the truly delicious cake. And she didn’t disappoint. The cake wasn’t just lovely–it was also really delicious!
Whoa it’s past midnight already!!! I’ll just split this into two parts. Will upload more photos of the kiddos during the program. Expect more happy faces and good vibes. Toodles!!!
