Randy got stressed when he heard what Raviv told me last week while I was dressing him up for school
Raviv: You know ‘Nay, I’m excited for Friday.
Raviv: Because I can already wear long pants. That way, no one can see my scratches [on my legs].
(Raviv’s school uniform is shorts, but every Friday is their freestyle day)
And Alona even chimed in: Hihihihi! Kasi naman Ma’am, parang ginagawa mong babae si Raviv sa pagkamaselan mo.
But before you judge me even if I’m not a book (hahaha!), check how Raviv’s legs looked like on his first day of school in 2017, prompting me to cluck my tongue and have a permanent scowl on my face. I also controlled my urge to tell his teacher that he will be wearing his PE uniform (jogging pants) instead of his usual school uniform (which Randy vetoed) until the bites on his legs disappear.
Don’t I have a reason to want to hide these?!? Besides, when Raviv wears shorts, he keeps on scratching the pantal. And that will make it worse. When he wears pants, he forgets about the itch.
But, OK, I admit it—even I was concerned. I don’t want Raviv to be too maarte, especially because he’s a boy. Call me sexist or whatever, but I prefer Raviv to be koboy (cowboy).
I remember laughing so hard when one of my colleagues mimicked the expression of one my former boss upon seeing that she (my colleague) was eating dinuguan. Diring-diri.
Moreover, I also remember that one of the confirmations early in our relationship that Randy was my “the one” was the fact that he eats papaitang kambing and hito (catfish). These are among my favourite dishes. I got easily turned off with some of the guys I dated who were more maarte than me. Ako ‘yung dapat maarte eh! But Randy was perfect because he looks (and is!) clean and mabango, yet he is the outdoorsy type who could even fathom eating field mice (ito ang hindi ko talaga kaya! I’d rather starve!)
But on the other hand, I also couldn’t stand Raviv eating with dirty hands, seeing his feet dirty, having rough knees, sitting on a dirty floor, sleeping without washing up and brushing his teeth, etc. More than for vanity’s sake, I don’t want him to end up in the hospital because of Salmonella. So again, I’m having trouble looking for the fine line that separates letting him live the “boys will be boys” mantra versus making sure he’s clean and healthy.
Anyway, this was the reason Raviv had pesky those insect bites:
Yes, because of this photoshoot! Randy wanted to take pictures of his bullmastiffs with our family; I wanted more photos of Raviv in his #OOTD for his Instagram account (http://instagram.com/rad_raviv). But we didn’t anticipate that there’d be lots of pesky insects. We also didn’t realise it because we were both wearing jeans, while Raviv was wearing shorts, waaaah! Kawawa naman—mega picture-picture pa kami while his legs were up for grabs for those pesky insects! I was nervous upon seeing his legs, and checked whether he would get sick. Thank heavens he didn’t get dengue fever or zika!
Anyway, here’s Raviv’s while the mosquitoes were attacking him:
- tartan polo: Ralph Lauren
- denim shorts: Forever 21
- flat cap: Old Navy
- denim shoes: Pitter-Pat (thank you Tita Raqx and Jaggy!)
