Shout out to my readers Rowena, Steph and Kimrose for these heartwarming messages:
Ladies, thank you so much! I’m blogging today because of your messages of support. 🙂 You just don’t know how much they mean. I hope to meet you three soon! 🙂
Anyway, Raviv will attend his best friend’s 7th birthday tomorrow. The mom asked whether Raviv could give a short speech during the party. I said I’ll talk to Raviv first, because he might be too shy especially because he is no longer classmates with the celebrants and most of the guests (He no longer goes to the big school where he went last year. K’wento ko sa inyo saan na siya on my next posts.) So good luck, sa “speech” ni Raviv, haha!
Because of that party, I had another #MyGahdIHateDruhgs moment: I got stressed about Raviv’s own 7th birthday celebration. It’s coming in 4 months!!!
Honestly, I don’t want to throw him a birthday party because I feel so pressured. Just thinking about it makes me feel tired. He’s been celebrating his regular birthdays almost every year; the only times he didn’t have parties were on his 2nd & 3rd birthdays. Tapos ngayong 7th birthday niya, tinamad na ako bigla. Maybe because 7th birthday celebrations are supposed to be grander than usual. Quota na ang Gymboree sa birthday parties ni Raviv, hehe.
Part of why I’m so stressed is because his birthday is on December 26. Translation: Christmas rush, most people are sawa na sa pagkain and are on vacation/out of town/out of the country. That means, inviting people to a party on Dec. 26 is going to be a challenge. Moreover, getting suppliers is a challenge: caterers and stylists are often fully-booked, kalaban ko ang weddings, family reunions and corporate Christmas parties! Sigh.
And then there’s the expenses. The last time I attended an awesome birthday party, nalula ako sa estimated expenses. One event host I talked to recently told me that if I want to have a vavavoom birthday party for Raviv, I have to be prepared to shell out P300,000. #MyGahdIHateDruhgs talaga, diba? And that’s only for a few hours of party!
Kung dati bongga na ang may face painting, ngayon average na lang ‘yun. Meron na ring kiddie salon, nail spa, etc.
Kung dati bongga na ang may magician/ventriloquist, ngayon average na lang ‘yun. Meron nang science experiments, acrobats, balloon twisting with dancing, etc.
I know that I can opt to keep Raviv’s party simple. But since he has been having regular birthday parties at Gymboree, I feel that I have this “responsibility” (hehe) to make his 7th birthday as special as I can. December is full of parties already; I want Raviv’s birthday party to stand out. Reward man lang ng mga nag-effort na bumiyahe amidst the Christmas traffic.
Eh may additional kaartehan pa ako: since I’ve seen how great Gymboree parties are because the children move around, I want Raviv’s party to involve thematic movement and exploration pa rin on top of a science experiments and acrobatic show (if Raviv will have a Spider-man party). That means I have to arrange a big playscape for children 5-9 years old; hindi na keri ng Gymboree. Sigh.
My other option is for a family outing with Raviv’s grandparents and his cousin Yoona. I’ve been eyeing a two-night, three-day staycation at Miniloc Island of El Nino Resorts.
I want that because Randy and I had such a great time when we went there almost a decade ago. We never ran out of things to do. Plus, all meals were already inclusive and it was breathtakingly beautiful. I want our parents to experience that kind of respite with us, that’s why anything less than El Nido is out of the question.
Sadly, it’s already fully booked as early as now during Raviv’s birthday week. It’s only available in the first week of January, but even then the prices have doubled.
Our last resort is to for the three of us to have a long overdue out-of-the-country trip. Japan is on top of mind. But our passports have expired. And here’s the extra challenge: since last year, I’ve been trying to get an online appointment for passport renewal to no avail. All DFA offices fully booked for the next three months! If I try to go past three months, not yet available pa! Gigil na gigil na gigil ako rito! Honestly, I’m having a hard time comprehending this, especially because travel agencies have slots! Paano nangyari ‘yun na may reserved slots sila?!?
Any ideas, guys? :’(
